Pune, 1 April 2021: A wine shop running on an inside road in Wagholi, on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway, will be soon shifting to the highway side. The citizens in this area have opposed this saying that the shifting would add more hurdles to the traffic congestion the road already faces. A letter was written in this regard by Mahiti Sewa Samiti to oppose this shifting.

The wine shop was originally located at the side of the highway earlier. At that time, people were suffering a lot due to the traffic jam on this road. Moreover, drunk people would also reportedly create problems for people, especially women. The shop was later moved to an inside lane.

The Pune-Ahmednagar Highway already has a traffic situation, which is difficult for the police to manage. In such a situation, if the wine shop shifted back to the main highway, it would create more problems. “People coming to this shop could park their vehicles in an inappropriate way. Many of them consume the alcohol just in front of the shop and some may start quarrelling with other people. Instead of thinking of the revenue, the authority must think about the problem that this shop could create. Moreover, it would be illegal for this shop to be close to 10 ft. from the highway. We are demanding not to grant permission for shifting this shop,” said Chandrakant Warghade, president, Mahiti Sewa Samiti.
