Want a VIP Bike Number? Pune RTO Announces Auction For New Series
Pune, 1st July 2026: The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Pune, has invited advance applications from vehicle owners seeking fancy or preferred registration numbers in the new two-wheeler registration series. Applicants can reserve such numbers by paying the prescribed fee, which is three times the regular registration charge.
According to the RTO, applications for the first phase will be accepted on July 2 between 10.30 am and 2.30 pm at the private vehicle section of the RTO office. Applicants must submit the prescribed form along with a demand draft (DD), self-attested copies of proof of address, identity proof and PAN card.
If multiple applications are received for the same registration number, the number will be allotted through a public auction. Demand drafts for the auction will be accepted until 2.30 pm on July 3, and the auction will be held at 4 pm the same day. The revised fee structure notified by the Maharashtra government on August 30, 2024, will apply.
The RTO has also announced a second round of applications. Requests received on July 3 will be taken up for auction on July 6, with DDs being accepted until 2.30 pm and the auction commencing at 4 pm.
Officials said the demand draft must be drawn in favour of “R.T.O., Pune” from a nationalised or scheduled bank in Pune and should not be more than two months old. Each applicant can submit only one sealed DD for a particular registration number. Applications with multiple DDs for the same number, incorrect DD amounts or DDs issued in any name other than “R.T.O., Pune” will be rejected.
In cases where two or more bidders quote the same amount for a registration number, the allotment will be decided through a draw of lots. The auction process will continue even if the applicants are not present.
The RTO said only vehicle owners having an address within its jurisdiction are eligible to apply. Applications from outside the Pune RTO jurisdiction, those with incorrect fees or incomplete details, including an incorrect mobile number, will be rejected.
After completion of the offline auction process, the remaining fancy registration numbers will be made available online through the portal (https://fancy.parivahan.gov.in). Vehicle owners can reserve available numbers by registering on the portal using their name and Aadhaar-linked mobile number, eliminating the need to visit the RTO office.
Officials also clarified that under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules, a reserved registration number remains valid for 180 days.
