Wheels of Change: 75 Bicycles Donated to Savitribai Phule Pune University in Diamond Jubilee Celebration
Pune, 10th February 2024: In celebration of its Diamond Jubilee Year, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) received a thoughtful and practical gift from Dr. Rajendra Vikhe Patil, president of Pravara Institute of Medical Science and a member of the SPPU’s senate. Dr. Patil presented 75 bicycles to the university, aimed at providing convenience to employees and promoting sustainable commuting.
The university, spanning an expansive 411 acres, often requires employees without personal vehicles to traverse considerable distances on foot. To address this issue and promote a sustainable mode of transportation, Dr. Patil’s generous gift of bicycles is seen as a commendable initiative.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Gosavi, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Parag Kalkar, In-charge Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Khare, Examination and Evaluation Board’s Director Dr. Mahesh Kakade, Senate member Bageshree Manthalkar, Prof Dr. Devidas Vaidande, and other distinguished personalities associated with the university were present during the presentation of bicycles.
Expressing gratitude for the thoughtful gesture, Vice-Chancellor Gosavi stated, “This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and the well-being of our staff. The bicycles will not only provide practical commuting solutions but also contribute to a healthier lifestyle for our employees.”
Dr. Patil emphasized the need to eliminate the practice of employees walking long distances due to the lack of personal vehicles. The bicycles are expected to bring relief to university staff, facilitating a more convenient and eco-friendly mode of transportation.
