Pune, 4th February 2025: Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, currently on a tour of India, showcased his warmth and humility during a special meeting with senior journalist Digambar Darade, the author of a book on Sunak’s life. In a memorable moment, Sunak himself took out his mobile phone and clicked a selfie, leaving everyone present pleasantly surprised.

Darade, author of Rishi Sunak, described the encounter as a testament to Sunak’s simplicity and friendliness.

The meeting took place in Mumbai at 6 PM on Sunday, where Darade, who had traveled to London for research, presented Sunak with a copy of his book. Sunak was visibly moved upon seeing the book and his photo on the cover, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the effort.

“Thank you for writing this book. I will definitely read it and share my feedback with you,” Sunak told Darade.

Throughout the interaction, Sunak’s down-to-earth nature was evident. He took time to greet everyone with a smile, personally engaging with the attendees. His approachability and ease of conversation made a strong impression.

Despite being a global political figure, Sunak has always maintained a close bond with India. Being the son-in-law of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy and social activist Sudha Murthy, his ties to the country run deep.

Sunak made history as the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, a nation that once ruled India for over 150 years. His journey is a source of immense pride for Indians, as he embodies both intellectual prowess and cultural rootedness.

A devoted Hindu, Sunak is known for his faith in Indian traditions, visiting temples, worshipping cows, and taking his oath as an MP on the Bhagavad Gita. His actions resonate deeply with many Indians, who see him as a symbol of cultural pride and modern leadership.

His visit to India and his gracious interaction with his biographer serve as yet another reminder of his humility, reinforcing his enduring connection with the land of his ancestors.
