“Why Did You Sell the Land?”: Sons Allegedly Beat Elderly Parents with Sticks Over Property Dispute in Pune’s Indapur
Indapur, 2nd September 2026: In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage, two men allegedly assaulted their elderly parents with wooden sticks in the middle of a road following a dispute over the sale of family land in Maharashtra’s Pune district. A video of the alleged assault has since gone viral on social media.
The incident took place in Indapur taluka on August 30. According to police information, 65-year-old farmer Tukaram Kisan Raut and his ailing wife Anjana Raut had stepped out for their routine evening walk at around 6 pm when they were allegedly confronted by their two sons, Sanjay Raut and Rajendra Raut.
Police said the accused brothers allegedly followed the elderly couple in a vehicle before stopping them on the road. An argument reportedly broke out over land that was allegedly sold despite objections from the sons.
The brothers allegedly questioned their father about why the land had been sold and demanded that the transaction be cancelled. During the confrontation, they allegedly abused and threatened the elderly couple before attacking them with wooden sticks.
Tukaram Raut reportedly sustained injuries to his back, face, thigh and left shoulder. His wife Anjana, who allegedly intervened during the attack, also suffered injuries to her right wrist and waist.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly threatened the couple with serious consequences if the land transaction was not reversed.
The incident came to the attention of local residents, who rushed to help the couple and alerted the police. Officers subsequently reached the spot and shifted the injured victims to the Indapur Sub-District Hospital for medical treatment.
Based on a complaint filed by Tukaram Raut, Indapur Police have registered a case against Sanjay Raut and Rajendra Raut under relevant provisions related to assault, criminal intimidation and other offences.
The accused brothers reportedly live separately with their families in Malwadi No. 2 area of Indapur. Police have launched a further investigation into the incident.
The video showing the alleged assault has triggered strong reactions online, with several social media users condemning the incident and demanding strict action against those responsible.
