Pune, 13th June 2026: The absence of pre-monsoon showers and the delayed arrival of the southwest monsoon have left residents of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad grappling with intense heat and humidity. With the second week of June coming to an end, the twin cities are yet to receive any significant rainfall, resulting in uncomfortable weather conditions.

Unlike last year, when pre-monsoon showers lashed Pune and surrounding areas during the latter half of May, this year has witnessed minimal rainfall activity. Apart from a few isolated summer showers nearly two weeks ago, the region has remained largely dry, with soaring temperatures and increasing humidity levels making daily life difficult for residents.

The prolonged spell of hot and humid weather has particularly affected senior citizens, children and those who spend long hours outdoors. During the afternoon, roads and public spaces have witnessed relatively lower footfall as many residents prefer to remain indoors to avoid the oppressive conditions.

Despite the delayed rains, citizens had already begun preparing for the monsoon season. Shops across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad reported steady sales of raincoats, umbrellas, waterproof footwear and other monsoon essentials. With schools reopening, parents also purchased rain gear for students in anticipation of the rainy season. However, the delayed onset of the monsoon has meant that much of the newly purchased equipment remains unused.

Residents are now eagerly awaiting the arrival of the monsoon, which is expected to provide much-needed relief from the persistent heat and humidity. Adequate rainfall is also crucial for improving water availability and easing concerns over water scarcity in some parts of the region.

As weather conditions continue to remain hot and humid, citizens are hoping that the monsoon will become active soon and bring widespread showers to Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and nearby areas.
