Why should India heed to International reports ?
India has been yearning to play a leaders role in so far as world development is concerned. She has been trying to establish a dominant position on the global stage. Performance on this stage is bound to be noticed. These performances include her domestic commitment towards her own citizens.
International reports on a country are observations of the state’s domestic performances. These demonstrate the state’s ability and willingness to perform on the global stage.
Whether these are reports on ease off doing business, fastest growing economy by leading international predictors or naming Indian organisations like the RSS as militant outfits, India cannot afford to disregard any reports if she has to maintain and improve her international standing.
With a rising economy being boasted of vigorously on the world stage international inputs on rising domestic conflicts should be taken in a positive spirit. This will enable us to implement well meant policies in the domestic arena besides demonstrating our inclination to perform effectively on the international forum as well.
Our joy was overwhelming when our rankings improved in ease of doing business. But we could not accept the report which show us in bad light. Though it is perfectly understood to be selective in reading such reports, it would be quite another in taking it in a positive spirit and reading it paradoxically.
Such intellectuality would only enable us to carry out any mid-course corrections significant in our domestic performances. It would also demonstrate our resolve to nip the problem in the bud. All such actions require humongous political will which is sadly lacking today.
