Navi Mumbai, 26th January 2024: Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil addressed his supporters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk in Vashi at 3:15 pm after meeting with Maharashtra state government representatives.

“If the government says they have found records of 54 lakh Marathas, but how will one know about it? They should put up the details at Gram Panchayat. Every eligible person should get the certificate, thus at least two crore Marathas will benefit. People should apply for the certificate. The government says they have distributed 37 lakh certificates out of 54 lakh. We have asked for details of all those who have been given the certificates,” Jarange Patil said.

He added, “The Shinde committee, which was established to decide the methodology to issue other backward class (OBC) certificates to Marathas and find proof to establish Marathas as Kunbi OBCs, should not be disbanded. A two-month extension has been granted.”

He further demanded the withdrawal of cases filed against people for protesting for the Maratha reservation. Also, until the Supreme Court decision is pending, all girls and boys from the community should get free education from KG to PG. Besides, government recruitment should not fill positions belonging to the Maratha community.

“The government resolution should be issued. We will wait here tonight and will not go to Azad Maidan in Mumbai,” Jarange Patil said.

Earlier, Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar informed that all the demands of Jarange Patil have been accepted. Kesarkar said, “Jarange Patil is very sensitive towards society. They will consider the interest of the state. Their demands have now been accepted. It will also be implemented by the government. The state government has so far issued 37 lakh Kunbi caste certificates. More than 5 million certificates will be issued after the new process is completed.”
