Woman Kidnapped, Raped in Pune’s Chakan; “Revenge” Motive Suspected

Chakan, 10th June 2025: A shocking incident has come to light in Pune’s Chakan area, where a woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped. While a case has been registered against seven individuals for the kidnapping, only one man is accused of rape. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) between 5th and 7th June. Both the kidnapping and alleged rape were reportedly acts of ‘revenge’ against the woman.
A 30-year-old woman filed a complaint at the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. Police have arrested Ganesh Nanekar, Barku Gosavi, Subhash Sutar, Prajwal Jadhav, and Yash Shinde. Om Nanekar and Ranjit Yerkar, against whom cases have also been registered, are currently absconding.
According to police reports, the victim had previously filed a case against the main accused, Ganesh Nanekar, at Alandi Police Station. Nanekar, a history-sheeter with 14 cases of violence registered against him, allegedly threatened the woman to withdraw her earlier complaint. When she refused, he kidnapped her at knifepoint and, with the help of accomplices, took her to Gosavi’s home. There, they locked her in a room, and the main accused allegedly raped her four times, as per her complaint. She was beaten, abused, and threatened. However, she managed to escape and report the incident to the police. Five suspects have been arrested and are in police custody until 12th June.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Dr. Shivaji Pawar told Punekar News, “According to the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. We have arrested five individuals; two are still absconding. We are investigating the matter further.”
Same Woman, Same Accused, Same Case—Three Years Ago
Sources told Punekar News that the same woman had filed a complaint against the same accused three years ago in a similar case, accusing him of rape. However, the matter was dropped due to insufficient evidence and other unknown reasons. Accused Ganesh Nanekar is known for his violent history, with his name appearing in 14 complaints across multiple police stations in the state.
