Pune, 23rd August, 2016: Author Sudha Menon is all set to launch WWW (Writing With Women), a unique project that will see women from diverse backgrounds and age groups come together and share their experiences through writing and telling their stories.

“Imagine what the world will lose if PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik and Deepa Karmakar don’t write their stories. Or their mother’s did not get the chance to document the leap of faith they had to make so their daughters could go find their spot in the sun.

When women write down their stories, it is not just about them. Through their stories we get a peek at social milieu of the times- family structures, gender equations….Unfortunately, far few women think of documenting their experiences,” Menon, the author of 3 non-fiction books including Leading Ladies :Women Who Inspire India and Legacy, a collection of letters to their daughters from eminent Indian men and women,  says about WWW.

She will be joined by a group of sterling Pune women including former Thermax Chairperson and social change activist Anu Aga, INTACH , Pune convenor Arti Kirloskar, Designer Indira Broker and Forbes Marshall Director Rati Forbes who will write with her at the launch of the project on August 27th. The project will then move to other cities including Mumbai and Bangalore, where she plans to organize WWW events.

“In the old days women lived in large families, interacted more with other women at work, during festivals and family get togethers. They reached out to one another more, counselled each other during difficult times and celebrated their achievements and triumphs together.

Given the high pressure lives we live today, most of us lead largely isolated lives with little time to nurture our souls. Our thoughts and feelings remain within us, unexpressed. Unlike earlier times when mothers and grandmothers wrote letters to us, we don’t even have that precious legacy in the sms and watsapp world that we live in.

“Today’s women have discovered their identity, are chasing their dreams with passion and straining to break the chains of societal expectations, stereotypes and conservative norms. Now, more than ever, I think it is important for us women to get together, share our experiences and write about them because if we don’t, we are in the danger of losing the stuff that our future generations, especially our daughters, can learn from.”

Menon will use a combination of memory mining and writing prompts to take workshop participants in parts of their life they want to capture.
