XVIII National Seminar on “Hospital & Healthcare Management, Medico Legal Systems & Clinical Research”
Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS), a constituent of Symbiosis International University (SIU) organized the XVIII National Seminar on “Hospital & Healthcare Management, Medico Legal Systems & Clinical Research” on 6th and 7th May, 2016.
The Seminar was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Mr. Thumbay Moideen (Founder President, Thumbay Group, UAE); Guest of Honour, Adv. Ram Jethmalani (Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha) and presided over by Padmabhushan Dr. S B Mujumdar (Founder President, Symbiosis & Chancellor, SIU). This was followed by felicitation of the dignitaries and traditional lamp lighting ceremony.
Dr. S.B. Mujumdar mentioned that as per statistics, India is lagging behind in the healthcare delivery. He emphasized that every healthcare professional should work in the direction of taking India ahead. Adv. Ram Jethmalani spoke on medical ethics and urged all professionals to swear to be ethical while practicing. .
The Seminar started off with a Pre-Conference Symposium on “Successful Healthcare Models” which was anchored by Ms. Shobha Mishra (Senior Director, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry- FICCI). The symposium featured an array of speakers from various verticals of healthcare. Representing the hospital vertical was Dr. Ravindra Karanjekar (Group CEO, Jupiter Hospital), while Mr. Shushobhan Dasgupta (MD, India, Johnson & Johnson) represented that medical devices industry and equipment manufacturing sector. The pharmaceutical sector was represented by Mr. Aniruddha Rajurkar (Head India Business, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd) and Mr. Kaushik Sen (Co-founder & CEO, HEALTHSPRING) spoke on behalf of the primary care vertical. The symposium underlined the current trends, opportunities, growth, innovations & challenges faced by the healthcare industry.
Dr. Nagesh Rao (President, MICA) in the post lunch session gave insights on importance of communications in Health care to survive in the immensely competitive environment. Patients’ perceptions of the quality of the healthcare they receive are highly dependent on the quality of their interactions with their healthcare clinician and team said Dr. Rao.
Mr. Abhishek Singh (Director, PWC) spoke on Enterprise Performance Management entrepreneurship. He described the scenario and the opportunities for budding entrepreneurs and stressed on the need for shrinking decision cycles where improved, faster and more accurate decision-making enables organisations to create a competitive advantage.
The first of the four master class sessions was on HR: Changing Paradigm by Mr. Joy Chakraborty (COO, Hinduja Hospital). The concept and practice of employee-employer relation has undergone a sea change in the last one decade. Redistribution of power, greater participation of employees, vertical and horizontal information sharing and team work have replaced the traditional traits of industrial relations and consequently transforming the Personnel and Industrial Relations department.
Dr. Arvind Lal (Chairman, Lal Path Lab) described the current technological and economic scenarios of diagnostic care and emphasized upon the challenges of quality assurance, pricing and local competition.
Dr Geeta Bharadwaj (Managing Director, MD India) (General Manager. MD India Healthcare Services (TPA) Pvt. Ltd.) gave a conceptual introduction to Indian healthcare insurance and an insight about various challenges and opportunities faced by the industry.
Dr. Sanjay Gupte (Past President FOGSI & Medical Legal Expert) discussed on the special laws related to healthcare such as patient’s rights, biomedical waste disposal act and various others.
