Pune – Sleuths from the Pune unit of anti corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday night caught three police personnel including an assistant police inspector of Yerwada police station for allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 bribe from an accused’s father for not arresting his two other sons in pistols recovery case.

ACB sleuths trapped API Madhukar Thorat and police naik Shridhar Shirke and Rakesh Chandekar on Monday night. Thorat and Shirke were caught while Chandekar managed to escape.

Superintendent of Police ( ACB- Pune range) Shirish Sardeshpande said, “The arrested police personnel had caught an accused few days back and recovered pistols from his possession. Later they threatened to arrest his two brothers also in the case and demanded bribe of Rs 4 lakhs from his father. Out of the total bribe money the accused had already accepted Rs 2 lakhs. On Monday the accused had asked the complainant to pay Rs  50,000 of the remaining amount.”

After getting the complaint, ACB sleuths laid a trap and caught API Thorat and Shirke on whose instruction a worker of the Xerox shop, located outside the police station, accepted the bribe amount.

Now an FIR has been registered against the three police personnel with Yerwada police station for offences under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
