Youth in Debt Attempts Suicide by Shooting Himself in Pune’s Katraj Ghat Area

Pune, 31st December 2024: A youth in debt attempted suicide by shooting himself with a pistol in Pune’s Katraj area. The Bharati Vidyapeeth Police have registered a case in this regard. The injured youth is currently undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital.

Senior Police Inspector Dashrath Patil, in charge of Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station, said that patrolling officers received information around 10 PM yesterday about an injured youth at Katraj Ghat. The Police immediately admitted him to the hospital. Initially, the youth claimed that he was stopped by thieves at Katraj Ghat and that they opened fire with a pistol when he refused to pay.

However, the information raised suspicions, prompting the police to review CCTV footage from the area. Upon further questioning, the youth confessed that he had attempted suicide due to financial debt. The police are investigating the origin of the country-made pistol found in his possession, Inspector Patil added.
