Pune police recovers 17,700 kg beef meat looted with truck

Pune – The Crime Branch unit II officials have recovered the 17,700 kg meat as well as the truck which was looted near Gahunje stadium on Tuesday early morning.

The arrested have been identified as Balaji Bapu Waghmare (29) of Solapur district and Mohammad Jabbar Sayyed of Wakad. But the main accused Dhanaji Gaikwad of Wakdi in Osmanabad district and his partner Sarang Gavli are absconding.

Truck driver Imran Ahmed Khan (23) of Wadala in Mumbai had lodged a case of robbery with Hinjewadi police station. Khan and his colleague Gufran Ahmed, were transporting the meat to Vashi via Pune-Mumbai Expressway, when the four accused stopped them near Gahunje stadium. They thrashed Khan and Ahmed and then decamped with the truck.

After getting information about accused, police arrested Waghmare and then Sayyed. The truck alongwith the meat was found in Fursungi.

Additional Commissioner of Police Pradip Deshpande, DCP Pankaj Dahane and ACP Sameer Shaikh supervised the investigation team which included police inspector Gajanan Pawar, API Jaywant Jadhav, ASI Shekhar Koli, head constable Ganesh Gadankush, Aslam Pathan, Raju Kedari, Kiran Pawar, Ajay Kharade, Siraj Shaikh, Police Naik Kishore Waggu, Atul Gaikwad, Vishal Bhillare, constable Prasad Jangilwad, Ajit Farande and Ganesh Narute.
