Interviewer: How long have you been associated with fnpCakes n more franchise business?

Mayur Dhoka: I have been associated with Ferns N Petals for 9 years now. I run a FNP flower franchise and my journey with fnpCakes n more started 3 years earlier. Currently, I own four fnpCakes n more outlets in Mumbai & Pune and opening 5th outlet this month.

Interviewer: Mayur Dhoka, you are really a successful entrepreneur. Is it just destiny or do you always wanted to be a businessman?

Mayur Dhoka: Not really, I always wanted to be a businessman. While I was working for a corporate, I thought of taking up a franchise business for my wife. After a lot of research, I finalized Ferns N Petals. The brand changed my whole perception of franchise business for the better and I never looked back. Now I am on to open my 5th store in Mumbai. This is a unique business which helps in spreading happiness, delivering emotions and making money at the same time.

Interviewer: Before starting this franchise business, what else have you done?

Mayur Dhoka: Before this, I was working as a Regional Manager with American Express and had a successful carrier of 14 years.

Interviewer: How much time do you spend in your shop every day? 

Mayur Dhoka: I spend an average of 3-4 hours and sometimes even more on occasions. Over a period, if you invest in high performing & long-lasting team, you can run this business on predefined SOP’s successfully without much of your involvement.

Interviewer: Did you notice any significant change in your life with this franchise business? 

Mayur Dhoka: Definitely yes, and for good. It is always better if you are working for yourself and investing your time in your own business.

Interviewer: Where do you see yourself in the coming 5 years? 

Mayur Dhoka: I see myself as an owner of 15 successful stores with fnpCakes n more and 2 Central Kitchens.

Interviewer: Is there any memorable moment that you or your team have experienced while serving a customer. If yes, do share it with us.

Mayur Dhoka: One of our 4 stores is in the corporate house, it gives us a great amount of satisfaction when people come & celebrate different life events, like birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, farewells, baby showers, etc. at our store and appreciate the ambiance and quality of our snacks & cakes. 

Interviewer: Do you ever get any weird demand from your customers? 

Mayur Dhoka: Yes, some customers ask for naughty cakes & weird messages using all kinds of slang languages.

Interviewer: What Success means to you? Please define it in a sentence.

Mayur Dhoka: Success is a beautiful balance between work & life. After starting my own business, I am now able to spend more quality time with my family. It keeps me happy and inspired and ultimately helps me to do better in business. I even encourage & ask my team to follow the same principle.

Interviewer: Do you have any suggestions or advice to those people who want to take up the FNP franchise model of business?

Mayur Dhoka: I was already associated with FNP flower franchise business for the last 9 years. And when they launched fnpCakes n more, I was the first one to open FNP Cafe in Airoli, Navi Mumbai in 2018 in the area of 750 sq.ft.

Interviewer: What kind of support is provided by fnpCakes n more once you avail their franchise business?

Mayur Dhoka: We get end to end support from fnpCakes n more, whether it is manpower, recipe, procurement of raw material, training, designs, marketing & promotional activities. And most importantly readymade sales/Online business they generate for us from day one.

Interviewer: Does the training provided by fnpCakes n more helps you effectively deal with day to day challenges at work?

Mayur Dhoka: Yes, FNP has a very professional training team which delivers a detailed training program for partners wherein intricacies of running a cake business is taught thoroughly. We are guided by a business plan which shows the clear business path of the first 12 months. This greatly helps in reaching operational break-even & invest recovery plans and run the business efficiently. 

Interviewer: How much investment is required to open a fnpCakes n more shop?

Mayur Dhoka: One can open a fnpCakes n more shop with a small investment of Rs 10 Lacs, which included franchise fee, the complete cost of interiors, first fill of stock, retail software, signage & basic office equipment’s to run the outlet.

Interviewer: How long did it take you to recover the investment?

Mayur Dhoka: There are two basic milestones wherein within 2 to 3 months operational breakeven is achieved & thereafter 8 to 12 months to recover the investment. 

Interviewer: Can you provide us with a rough image of your current profit or income. Is that what you expected?

Mayur Dhoka: From fnpCakes n more retail store, one can expect 50k – 70k income from the 2nd or 3rd month itself.
