Memorabilia of Kishori Tai penned in a book

Pune, February 1, 2018: Gaanasaraswati Vidhushi Kishori Amonkar, famously known as Kishori Tai personifies the untiring dedication in Hindustani classical music. Music enthusiasts will now get the opportunity to learn more about this legendary artist and classical vocalist through a distinctive book– ‘The Soul Stirring Voice, Gaanasaraswati Kishori Amonkar’ written by Rhythm Wagholikar, a Pune based music enthusiast.

This one of the first books in English to be printed on Kishori Amonkar contains some soul rendering reminisces, anecdotes and life stories of Tai as narrated by her disciples and loved ones. The cover of the book will be unveiled on February 4th, 2018 at the Gaanasaraswati Mahotsav 2018 organized by Natyasampada Pratishthan in Pune from Friday.

Apart from interviewing Tai’s friends and family for the book, Rhythm was also fortunate to interview the Thumri Queen Girija Devi before her demise. Tejashree Amonkar, Tai’s granddaughter authenticated the information being the Editor of the book. The Nostalgic concept and visual feel of the book is a brainchild of Rachana Khadikar Shah.

Rhythm at his young age has been creating works on great music connoisseurs, in a never before thought style. This book on Tai is his second book after ‘Swarlata’, book on Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, legendary play back singer which was published in the form of gramophone. One of the world’s first gramophone record shaped book received the praise and accolades of readers.
