Pune Police Crime Branch recovers brown sugar narcotic substance worth Rs 77 lakhs, 2 persons arrested

Pune, October 15, 2019: The sleuths from Crime Branch unit 3 of Pune City Police on Tuesday arrested two persons for allegedly possessing 1.5 kg brown sugar worth Rs 1.6 crores in the international market. The narcotic substance is worth Rs 77 lakhs in India.

On the orders of the Commissioner of Police K Venkatesham to intensify patrolling to nab criminals ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections,  a patrolling team nabbed the accused persons around 1 pm outside a hotel near Chandani chowk under Kothrud police jurisdiction.

Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Shisave told news reporters that the narcotic substance was checked with machine and then Selvam Nareshan Devendar (57), and Vasanti Chinu Devendar (57), both residents of Koliwada in Sion, Mumbai, were arrested.

DCP (crime) Bachchan Singh said, “Selvam was carrying bag containing 1 kg brown sugar, while Vasanti carried another bag having 540 gm brown sugar. Investigation is going on to find out source of the narcotic substance and also whether they are part of any organized crime syndicate.”

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi, in-charge of Crime Branch unit 3, said that an FIR has been registered with Kothrud police station against two accused for offences under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The team which arrested the accused persons included API Bhalchandra Dhawle, PSI Sanjay Gaikwad, Kiran Adagale, and policemen Sachin Gaikwad, Praveen Tapkir, Sandip Talekar, Wilson Dsouza, Machhindra Walke, Rahul Ghadge, Gajanan Ganbote and Ramdas Gonte.
