Pune: Suicide of IT engineer due to high salary of fiancée, dispute over marriage
Pune, April 29, 2020: Investigation by Wakad police station under Pimpri Chinchwad police revealed that the 28-year-old IT engineer allegedly committed suicide due to dispute with his fiancée. Both of them worked with IT major Infosys in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi.
According to Wakad police station officials, the deceased Prasoon Kumar Jha, a native of Darbhanga in Bihar, lived in Laurel society in Wakad. Around 2 pm on Monday, he had jumped from the 12th floor resulting in his death. He worked with Infosys as Technology Analyst. “The preliminary enquiry point to dispute with his fiancée as the reason behind the suicide. Further investigation is going on”, said senior police inspector Vivek Muglikar, in-charge of the police station.
Another police officer added, “The two became friends in 2014, and this friendship turned into love. The two also were to get married. The couple had been staying in a live-in relationship for the past nine months. But his girlfriend had an annual package of one lakh rupees more than him. Also, she was going to get a job in another company on a big package. This matter bothered Prasoon from time to time. There used to be arguments between. He had also become suspicious about her.”
The officer added, “Prasoon repeatedly told his girlfriend that life is more important than money. But money is important in life for the future, she used to say. They had a heated argument on Monday morning over the same issue. The woman told him that her family will make the final call about their marriage and threw him out of the house. Then Prasoon went to Laurel Society in Wakad. There, on the sixth floor, he had reserved a place for himself in a flat with two friends.
The two friends were in their room when Jha reached there. He went out of the flat around 1.30 pm. He took the key to the terrace from the security guard and went to the twelfth floor. Leaving his mobile phone there, he jumped and committed suicide. Wakad police are investigating the matter further.
