Soon 1550 new PMPML buses to ply on Pune roads

Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will soon buy 550 new buses and take 1000 buses on contract for public transport in Pune, Pimpri and Chinchwad areas.

The decision was taken by the PMPML board of directors after a meeting on Saturday.

The first lot of 500 buses will be purchased before the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival. The PMPML will also float global tenders for other buses.

People are facing severe crowd in buses. The public transport utility needs 3100 buses, while it has only 2100. And only 1500 of them actually ply on the roads.

The PMPML is going to recruit 3000 new drivers, 1500 conductors and 1000 other employees.
