Pune, 28th April 2026: The Congress on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led administration in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), alleging a rise in corruption during the first 100 days of its tenure after securing a clear majority.

Addressing the media, city Congress president Arvind Shinde and group leader Adv. Ramchandra alias Chandusheth Kadam claimed that the ruling dispensation had “betrayed” citizens and that the civic body was increasingly plagued by corruption. They further alleged an “understanding” between the administrative machinery and the BJP, warning of intensified protests in the coming days.

The Congress leaders pointed out that key promises made in the BJP’s election manifesto remain unfulfilled. These include tax exemptions for homes up to 500 square feet and concessions for properties registered in the names of women. They also alleged that internal disputes among the mayor, standing committee chairperson, and leader of the house have stalled development works in the city.

Raising civic concerns, the opposition highlighted worsening traffic congestion and irregular water supply, calling the situation “serious” for Pune residents.

The party also flagged alleged irregularities in recruitment and promotion processes within PMPML, controversies surrounding hoarding tenders, and alleged corruption in garbage management projects. Questions were also raised over policies favouring builders and irregularities in drainage cleaning works.

Meanwhile, the Congress claimed credit for successfully pushing for an increase in the income limit under the urban poor health scheme. It also reiterated its opposition to the proposed riverfront development project, stating that it would continue to take an aggressive stand in the interest of Pune citizens.

The BJP has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
