Vitthalwadi, 7th July 2025: In a major boost to law enforcement in Pune, 1,000 new police personnel will soon join the Pune Police Force, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced on Sunday. The additional manpower comes in response to the city’s rapid expansion and growing policing needs.

Patil made the announcement during the inauguration of the new Anandnagar Police Chowky building in the Vitthalwadi area on Sinhagad Road. The police post has been constructed using the MLA funds of Madhuri Misal, Minister of State for Urban Development.

“The city is growing fast. Citizens, elected representatives, and the police must work together to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement,” Patil said.

“Out of the 20,000 police personnel being recruited across the Maharashtra Police Force, 1,000 have been allocated to Pune. Their training is currently underway.”

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner (West Region) Rajesh Bansode, DCP (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam, ACP Ajay Parmar, and Senior Inspector Dilip Daigade were among those present at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Madhuri Misal recalled the challenges faced by residents in the area before the expansion of the Pune Police limits.
“Earlier, Sinhagad Road residents had to approach the Haveli police station under the Rural Police Force. After public demand and due to the growing urban sprawl, Sinhagad Road Police Station was established and brought under Pune Police jurisdiction,” Misal said.

“The police station now has a newly constructed building on reserved land. We will also follow up with the Chief Minister to set up a Cyber Police Unit here.”
Seven New Police Stations Approved for Pune
Highlighting the growing demands of an expanding city, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced that the Home Department has approved seven new police stations in Pune. “To improve public safety, funding has been allocated for the CCTV surveillance system, and manpower in the department has been significantly increased. Maintaining law and order remains a top priority,” Kumar said.

With increasing incidents of cybercrime and urban congestion, the addition of new police infrastructure and personnel is seen as a critical step in strengthening Pune’s policing capabilities.
