Pune, 8th May 2025: In a significant move to strengthen urban security and curb serious crimes, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will soon inaugurate a state-of-the-art network of Artificial Intelligence-enabled CCTV cameras and a centralized command centre in Pune.

The Pune Police have nearly completed the installation of 1,200 AI-powered CCTV cameras across key locations in the city. These smart cameras are designed to identify suspicious behavior, track habitual offenders, and respond in real-time to criminal activities.

The Maharashtra state government has sanctioned a budget of ₹467 crore for the project. The surveillance footage and technical monitoring will be handled from a newly established control room at the Shivajinagar Police Headquarters, which will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar shared details of the development during a press briefing on Wednesday. “These AI-powered surveillance systems will be a major deterrent to criminal activities and will aid in quick investigation and response,” he said.

The event will also coincide with another key development: the destruction of ₹3,600 crore worth of mephedrone seized during a major drug bust at a company in the Kurkumbh industrial area. The disposal of the seized narcotics will take place in the presence of Chief Minister Fadnavis, highlighting the state’s firm stance against drug trafficking.
