16-Year-Old Student Killed Over Bench Dispute; Two Classmates Detained
Nashik, 4th August 2025: A 16-year-old boy, Yashraj Gangurde, lost his life after allegedly being beaten by two of his classmates during a confrontation near their coaching class in the Satpur area of Nashik on Saturday evening. The incident reportedly stemmed from an earlier disagreement regarding the arrangement of benches in their classroom.
The altercation took place around 6 PM near a garden in Ashok Nagar, not far from the private tutorial the boys attended. According to police, a verbal dispute between Yashraj and the two other boys escalated into physical violence. The boys allegedly kicked and punched Yashraj repeatedly, resulting in serious internal injuries.
“No weapons were used in the assault. The boy suffered internal injuries that proved fatal. We have detained the two minors involved and will produce them before the Juvenile Justice Board,” said Senior Inspector Ranjit Nalavade of the Satpur Police Station.
Police said the three students had clashed on Friday as well over the classroom seating issue. On Saturday, the situation worsened, and the two boys allegedly attacked Yashraj again and left him injured at the spot.
A fellow student discovered Yashraj lying unconscious near the garden and immediately informed the tutorial staff. He was first rushed to a nearby private hospital and later shifted to Nashik Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead by doctors.
Following a preliminary investigation, Satpur police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
Section 103(1) – Punishment for murder
Section 352 – Assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation
Section 3(5) – Criminal act committed by several persons with common intention
Yashraj, a resident of Nashik, is survived by his mother and an elder brother, aged 21, who works as a school van driver. The family is devastated by the sudden and violent loss.
Police are continuing the investigation and have called for statements from other students and staff members of the tutorial.
