160 players for 9th Edition of ‘PYC – TRUSPACE Badminton League 2023

Pune, August 20, 2023: Soham Gadgil(Belvalkar Bobcats, 3300pts), Pratik Dharmadhikari(Ravetkar Comets, 3300pts), Anish Rane(Belvalkar Bobcats,3200pts), Tejas Kinjawadekar(Imperial Swans) emerged the most expensive players amongst 160 players in various age groups who will represent eight teams at the ninth edition of ‘PYC – TRUSPACE’ badminton league tournament to be organized by PYC Hindu Gymkhana and played at Club Badminton Courts from 22nd to 27th of August 2023.

Mr. Kumar Tamhane, President of PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Mr. Sarang Lagu, Hon Secretary of the PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Mr. Ashwin Trimal of Truspace informed that, the event attracted 160 participants in various age categories i.e. Nominated players, Women, and Open category. It will be the ninth year in a row that Ashwin Trimal of TRUSPACE will be the exclusive sponsor for the tournament added Mr. Tamhane.

“We are thrilled to support this event and happy to provide a platform for players to show their skills ” added Mr. Trimal a keen sportsperson himself.

A player can play only 1 match in a tie. Each tie will be the best of 8 matches. All matches will be played in the best of three match format with the decider game to be played only in case of a tie in the first two games.

The event will be played in league cum knock out basis. The Group Winner A and Group B will play Qualifier 1 match, while the Runner up group of 1 and 2 will play the eliminator. The Winner of Qualifier 1 will directly qualify for the Finals while the loser of Qualifier 1 will play the Winner of Eliminator in Qualifier 2. The winner team will receive Trophy, informed Mr. Tanmay Agashe, Badminton secretary of PYC Hindu Gymkhana. Mr. Nandan Dongre, will be the Tournament Director of PBL.

The highlights of this year’s event is Maximum members participation and a format where everyone gets to play. We have ensured more women and children participation, this year. Every team will get 3 bonus points for 100% participation incentive.

The 8 teams will be divided in 2 Pools, A and B with 4 teams in each pool, All teams will play each other at the league stage. There will be 7 Open Doubles matches and 1 Mixed Doubles match in a Tie.

The participants who are all club members were selected in 8 teams through an auction process. The teams who are also owned by members are as follows Optima Falcons (Abhijit Rajwade), Kaps Ravens (Kedar Nadgonde and Preeti Sapre), Black Hawks(Alok Telang), Ravetkar Comets(Amol Ravetkar & Parag Chopda), Imperial Swans(Aditya Kale), The Eagles(Vinayak Bapat & Amit Devdhar), Belvalkar Bobcats(Nakul Belvalkar), Seinumero Jalan Goshawk(Tushar Mengale & Sameer Jalan).

A special Tournament Committee comprising Tanmay Agashe,Sarang Lagu, Abhishek Tamhane, Nandan Dongre, Vivek Saraf, Ranjit Pande, Kedar Nadgonde, Sameer Jalan and Deepti Sardesai has been formed to ensure smooth conduct of the event, Mr. Tamhane added.
