17th PIFF will be held between January 10th and 17th

Pune, December 10, 2018: The Pune International Film Festival (PIFF), one of the most awaited and admired film festivals of India will take place in Pune in between January 10th and 17th. Organized by the Pune Film Foundation and Maharashtra Government, this is the 17th consecutive year of this prestigious film fest. This year being the 150th year of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth Anniversary, PIFF will pay homage to him having it as a central theme.

This was announced by Dr.Jabbar Patel, Festival Director, during a Press Conference held in city today. Samar Nakhate, Artistic Director, PIFF, Makrand Sathe, Satish Alekar, Abhijit Randive, Members, PIFF Selection Committee were also present on the occasion.

The 8 day long PIFF will showcase about 150 plus films carefully selected from 1634 films that are received from 114 countries across the globe. The festival will be showcased in 10 screens at 4 different venues located in Pune. City Pride Kothrud is the main venue for the festival. City Pride Satara Road, City Pride Mangala and National Films Archives of India (NFAI) are the other venues. As always, the festival would be loaded with workshops, seminars and film centric panel discussions.

Talking about this year’s theme, Dr. Patel said, ‘‘Mahatma Gandhi’s contribution is not limited to the struggle of Indian Independence. His thoughts influenced the world and have its effect on many Indian and World movies too. This year along with other movies, PIFF will showcase some selected movies based on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.’’

The online registration for delegates is available at www.piffindia.com which will start from 11th December. Interested delegates can fill the form online and get an acknowledgement number for reference. Once the online registration is completed they can visit spot registration desks at the venues- City Pride Kothrud, City Pride Satara Road and City Pride Mangala. The spot registration will commence from December 20th and will be available in between 11.00am and 7.30pm.

Students (above 18 years), Film Club members (with valid ID) and senior citizens (over 60 years), the catalogue fee is at a discounted rate of Rs.600/- whereas for open category it is Rs.800/-.
