Business has an important role in creating a strong and prosperous India – Venkaiah Naidu

Mumbai : Government and businesses must act as partners to spur economic growth. Stating this at the ET awards function the Vice President of India Shri Venkaiah Naidu stressed that the government should act as a facilitator for businesses to thrive by adopting appropriate and investment –friendly measures ,which are in the best interests of the country.He urged the businesses to promote ethical corporate governance .The Vice president said, “India Inc and the Indian State should collectively ensure that every asset becomes a performing asset”.

Shri Naidu said while reforms are the need of the hour, we need to focus on inclusive growth and bridging disparities.

On the farm sector he said, “There is a need to liberate the farm sector from a host of shackles that are pulling it down. By and large farm sector is still out of the pale of reforms .Catalyzing farm sector is the key to economic growth .Agriculture and industry shall be looked at as the two eyes of our economy”.

Presenting an award for Business Reformer and Policy Change Agent of the year to Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitely Shri Naidu especially congratulated him and said, “Arun Ji  has been passionately associated  with efforts to enable  full manifestation of the freedom of  economic expression over the last three and a half years and richly deserves this honour . Several well considered and far reaching reform initiatives have been introduced during this short period .I can say with confidence that only he could have made the GST council function in the smooth manner that it has done”.

Addressing the gathering of captains of Industry at the ET Awards fuction  Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said “The process of structural reforms in India still has a long way to go. The Prime Minister’s historic decisions on demonetisation and GST will have a long term beneficial impact. The whole idea is to make the economy a cleaner economy, the shadow economy cannot be larger than the apparent economy”. He said the tax base is expanding and digital transactions are expanding. Paying taxes is a fundamental patriotic duty.
