200 Coaches Appeal Govt To Resume Badminton

Pune, September 21: Over 200 Badminton coaches from the state have appealed to the state and central governments to restart indoor badminton training, which has been stopped signs march.

The badminton fraternity has been hit hard and is struggling to make ends meet due to the inactivity of the sports in the state. While sports like athletics, tennis, golf, mallkhamb and shooting(outdoor) have started. only outdoor training for badminton has been allowed by the state government. Outdoor training doesn’t help badminton. Since it is an indoor sport.

“The coaches are facing economic crises. The pandemic has robbed them off there livelihood and most of them have no other alternatives or source of income. We understand that the positive cases increasing every day, but we appeal the governments to resume badminton as it is completely a non-contact sport. Moreover, badminton is a good way to keep fit and building immunity. All coaching centres and coaches assure to abiding by SOPs”, the coaches said.

State sports commissioner Om Prakash Bakoria acknowledged that the fraternity is facing a tough time. However, he is yet to get any instruction from the government. The health ministry has to give a go-ahead.
