Lonavala, 26th May 2025: Lonavala witnessed torrential pre-monsoon showers on Sunday (25 May), recording an intense 232 mm (9.17 inches) of rainfall within 24 hours. The heavy downpour led to severe waterlogging across the hill station, disrupting daily life and inundating several low-lying areas.

In localities like Gavliwada, rainwater entered residential houses, forcing some families to seek temporary shelter. Streets were submerged, and vehicular movement was affected in multiple parts of the city.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the intense rainfall was triggered by a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea, which has heightened pre-monsoon activity across Maharashtra. The southwest monsoon has made an early onset in the state- weeks ahead of its usual schedule in June.

Local authorities worked through the day to clear clogged drains and restore normalcy.
