234 Dalit Vasti In Pune District Get Water Supply On Social Empowerment Day

Pune, 20th March 2022: Today, Pune Zilha Parishad (ZP) is celebrating National Social Empowerment Day by inaugurating 234 water supply schemes in Dalit Vastis across Pune District. The District Level program was inaugurated by Supriya Tai Sule, Member of Parliament (Baramati Lok Sabha).

Members of Parliament, Legislative Assembly & Members of Pune Zilha Parishad attended the program. The program was telecast LIVE on social media platforms. People at 234 Dalit Vastis viewed the program on a screen with the help of a projector and sound system. After the District Level Program, Members of Pune Zilha Parishad, former Members of Panchayat Samitis, Gram Panchayat Sarpanch etc. inaugurated the water supply works at different locations in the district.

Pune ZP CEO Ayush Prasad, “These 234 works are water storage tanks and distribution networks to provide piped water supply to homes in Dalit Vastis. The cumulative value of the works is Rs 9.2820 Crores. Piped water supply is bring provided to 33,430 households through this scheme – an approximate population of 1.50 Lakhs have directly benefitted.

Ambegaon had 19 works, Baramati had 37 Works, Bhor had 32 Works, Daund had 35 Works, Haveli had 31 Works, Indapur had 80 works, Junnar had 26 Works, Khed had 19 Works, Maval had 10 works, Mulshi had 23 works, Purandhar had 13 works, Shirur had 12 works and Velha had 1 Work.”

Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar and thousands of his supporters proceeded to the Chavdar Tale. Dr Baba Sahib Ambedkar first drank water from the tank – thereby breaking the practice of injustice and laying the foundation for a new India based on equality and justice.

“Pune Zilha Parishad constantly works to realize and implement the principles enshrined in the Constitution of India. Pune District Planning Committee under the Social Welfare Sub Plan is providing Rs 45 Crores per year to help improve the standards of living in Dalit Vastis across the district”, Prasad added.
