28% Population Of Pune City Live In 390 Slums

Pune, 28th July 2022: About 28% people of Pune city live in slums and the total number of official slums is reportedly 390. Therefore, it is planned to rehabilitate the slum dwellers through slum rehabilitation schemes. This fact has come out from the Environment Status Report of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the year 2021-22.

The city is developing rapidly and the trend of coming to the city is increasing due to various housing projects, roads, water supply, electricity, sewage system, transport system etc. Urbanization is caused by migration, industrialization as well as area expansion due to increasing population.

 

According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 35 lakh 56 thousand 824. The population of the city is also increasing due to various reasons. At the same time, the number of slums in the city is also increasing, it has been mentioned in the environmental report.

 

The number of official slums in the city is 390. Accordingly, there are 1 lakh 40 thousand 846 slums in it. It has 7,40,180 inhabitants and 28 per cent of the population lives in slums. Therefore, the rehabilitation projects are being implemented through the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. The process of surveying the slum area in the city and reviewing it, preparing a plan for the rehabilitation of the slum areas, and implementing the slum rehabilitation plan has started.

 

Free ownership house is planned to be given to eligible slum dwellers who registered the plot on or before January 1, 2000. The size of this house has been fixed as 269 square feet. Apart from Slum Rehabilitation Authority, it is planned to provide affordable houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. It is proposed to construct 18 thousand 318 houses through slum rehabilitation, 41 thousand 783 through loan-linked grants, 2 thousand 919 through affordable housing and 6 thousand projects on a public-private partnership basis.
