Pune, 17th May 2022: Three Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers have been booked for assaulting Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) worker Vaishali Nagwade at Balgandharva auditorium yesterday during a book launch function in the presence of senior BJP leader and Union minister Smriti Irani.

The accused have been identified as Bhasmaraj Tikone, Pramod Kondhare and Mayur Gandhi. Deccan Gymkhana police station has registered against them for offences under sections 354, 323, 504, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Union Minister Smriti Irani was in Pune to release a book of Shivanand Dwivedi’s ‘Amit Shah and BJP’s Vatchal’. BJP workers, including Maharashtra BJP State President Chandrakant Patil were present at the occasion.

Around this time, Vaishali Nagwade and her fellow activists barged into the auditorium and raised slogans from the last row. A scuffle broke out between the BJP and NCP activists.

NCP MP Supriya Sule said, “Nagwade and others were protesting against rising fuel prices in the country. A male BJP member assaulted her which is not acceptable.”
