3 Pune Division Employees Receive Central Railway Safety Awards for Preventing Accidents

Pune, 17th June 2025: Three employees from the Pune Division of Central Railway were honoured with Safety Awards in recognition of their alertness and timely action that helped avert potential accidents. The felicitation took place during a ceremony held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The awards were presented by Central Railway General Manager Dharam Veer Meena. Each award comprised a medal, commendation certificate, citation, and a cash prize of ₹2,000.
Awardees:
Abhishek Lohiya, Deputy Station Manager at Nimblak, while on duty on 3 May 2025, heard an unusual sound from the 7th wagon of a passing goods train during signal exchange. He immediately informed relevant authorities. The train was halted at the next station, where a 90 mm flat tyre was detected on one of the wagon’s wheels.
Abhichandra Yadav, Loco Pilot (Goods) at Lonavala, identified a broken secondary suspension outer helical spring near wheel no. 4 of a locomotive during a routine inspection after taking charge of the train. He promptly declared the locomotive unfit and informed all concerned, preventing a potential hazard.
Sandeep Pawar, Inspector, Railway Protection Force, Pune, responded to information received at 12:15 pm on 9 May 2025 about suspicious items near Pimpri station. Upon inspection with his team, 11 old ammunition shells were found buried about 25 meters away in nearby bushes. The items were later deactivated.
The awards were conferred in recognition of these employees’ dedication to safety and vigilance in operational duties. Senior officials including Additional General Manager Prateek Goswami and Principal Chief Safety Officer Chandra Kishore Prasad were present at the event.
