Pune, August 18, 2020: Heavy rains have caused havoc in many states of the country. According to the Meteorological Department, 31 states have received more than normal rainfall. There are 17 states where there was 50 percent more rainfall than normal on Monday. Talking from June 1 till now, the country has received four percent more rain than normal. By August 18, India should have received 612.1 mm of rain, instead, 639 mm of rain has been received.

Gujarat received 525 percent more rainfall on Tuesday. Maharashtra and Goa have also received more than normal rainfall. If we look at the data from June 1 to August 18, 10 states have received more than normal rainfall. There are 21 states where normal rainfall occurred. Whereas six states have received less than normal rainfall so far.

16 percent more rainfall in Maharashtra

According to the Meteorological Department, this monsoon has received nearly 16 percent more rainfall than the normal average since June. The state received 826.7 mm of rain from June 1 to August 17. The previous monsoon received 713.7 mm of rainfall during this period. Six out of the 36 districts of the state received heavy rainfall since June 1, while Yavatmal, Gondia and Akola received less rainfall.

Flood-like situation may occur in Madhya Pradesh

According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area is seen forming in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday. Due to this, heavy rain may occur for the next 4-5 days. There is a warning of very heavy rains, especially in Madhya Pradesh. It is estimated that Madhya Pradesh may receive rains up to 20 cm. The Meteorological Department has also asked the disaster management department to be vigilant.

Heavy rain expected in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand has already suffered due to rain. But on Wednesday, there is an alert of heavy rain here. For this, heavy rains are also expected in western Rajasthan. Alert in these states including Gujarat, Goa. There are already flood-like conditions in Gujarat due to heavy rains. But according to the Meteorological Department, there is an alert of heavy rain for the next 4-5 days.
Apart from this, there is also a possibility of heavy rains in the areas of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Odisha and Vidarbha.

Condition of Delhi NCR

Talking of North India including Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, strong rains can be seen here. Heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Northeast except Arunachal Pradesh, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the northeastern states for the next few days. There is a possibility of heavy rains in Tripura for the next two days.

How much rain in which part of the country?

The eastern and northeastern parts of the country have received 6 percent more rainfall than normal so far. By August 18, the normal rainfall should have been 982.7 mm whereas so far 1039.6 mm of rain has been received. Central India also received seven percent of normal rainfall. While the south peninsula has received 26 percent more rainfall than normal. However, this is not the case in Northwest India. It received 18 percent less rainfall than normal. The region should have received 415.8 mm of rain but so far only 341.2 mm of rain has been received.

Which states have more rain?

Sikkim has recorded 78 percent, Andhra Pradesh 48 percent, Telangana and Tamil Nadu 45-45 percent, Lakshadweep 34 percent, Goa and Gujarat 28-28 percent more rains.

These states still yearn

The lowest rainfall in the country was recorded in Ladakh. It received 69 percent less rainfall than normal. Apart from this, Jammu and Kashmir received 46 percent, Rajasthan 14 percent, Himachal Pradesh 25 percent less rainfall. Delhi too received 14 percent less rainfall. Similarly, Punjab has received 13 percent, Haryana 3 percent, UP four percent and Uttarakhand 11 percent less rainfall.
