Pune, 18th June 2024: Ushahkal Abhinav Institute of Medical Sciences (UAIMS) in Sangli carried out a significant multiorgan and tissue donation today. A 32-year-old male from Sangli, who was admitted with venous thrombosis on June 14, 2024, became the donor.

The patient, an epilepsy sufferer who was on regular treatment and worked as a farmer, was unmarried. His family, also farmers, and his brother, an IT engineer, gave consent for the donation of all viable organs to those in need of transplants.

The donated organs included the liver, both kidneys, heart, and lungs. These were allocated in accordance with medical guidelines. The skin and corneas will be retrieved locally in Sangli. Transplant teams retrieved the organs and transported them via green corridors and chartered flights to hospitals in Pune and Mumbai for transplantation to registered recipients.

The UAIMS management expressed profound gratitude to the donor’s family for their selfless act. They also extended their thanks to ZTCC Pune, all transplant teams, local authorities, the civil surgeon of Sangli, Sangli Police, and everyone involved in the process.
