38 Long-Running Railway Projects Worth Rs 89,780 Crore Continue Across Maharashtra
Pune, 20th December 2025: A total of 38 railway infrastructure projects involving an investment of ₹89,780 crore are currently in various stages of execution across Maharashtra, reflecting sustained expansion of the rail network over the past several years.
The sanctioned works comprise 11 new railway line projects, two gauge conversion projects and 25 doubling or multitracking projects, covering a combined length of 5,098 kilometres. As of April 1, 2025, railway authorities have commissioned 2,360 kilometres of track under these projects, with an expenditure of ₹39,407 crore incurred so far.
Several major capacity-enhancement projects have progressed during this period. These include the Pune–Miraj–Londa doubling project extending over 467 kilometres, the Manmad–Jalgaon third line spanning 160 kilometres, and doubling works on critical sections such as Panvel–Pen, Pen–Roha, Udhna–Jalgaon, Mudkhed–Parbhani and Daund–Gulbarga. Gauge conversion projects on the Jabalpur–Gondia and Chhindwara–Nagpur routes have also been undertaken as part of the network upgrade.
In parallel, new railway lines are under development or at different stages of execution on routes including Ahmednagar–Beed–Parli Vaijnath, Baramati–Lonand, Wardha–Nanded, Indore–Manmad and Jalna–Jalgaon. These projects are distributed across multiple regions of the state and involve coordination among Central Railway, Western Railway, South Central Railway, South East Central Railway and South Western Railway.
To support future expansion, surveys for 98 additional railway projects encompassing new lines, gauge conversions and doubling works covering a total length of 8,603 kilometres have been sanctioned between 2022–23 and 2025–26.
The ongoing projects represent a continuation of multi-year railway infrastructure development across Maharashtra, with work progressing on several corridors aimed at increasing network capacity and operational efficiency.
