382 Doctors Have Lost Their Lives In The Country While Treating COVID19 Patients

Pune, September 21, 2020: 382 doctors lost their lives while treating Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in the country. Out of the total, 36 doctors are from Maharashtra and four from Pune. According to the information provided by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), most of the doctors were general practitioners.

The state and central government are trying their best to control the spread, but the infection is rising day by day. Whereas the doctors treating the COVID-19 patients are getting infected which is a grievous matter of concern. This includes doctors from Pune, Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Akola, Ratnagiri and Dhule.

“Dr Vikas Abnave, Dr Sridhar Jagtap, Dr Sanjay Shelar Dr Saswad and Dr Bharat Thambe are doctors from Pune who died due to COVID-19 infection. These doctors were general practitioners and family physicians. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has prepared the list of deceased doctors”, said the state branch president of the Indian Medical Association, Dr Avinash Bhondwe.

Dr Bhondwe added, “The list of deceased doctors is made by the IMA, the information is not authorised as the government had not kept any records in this regard. The death rate of doctors is nearly 5 percent. To control the spread amongst doctors, doctors should work in limited time hours instead of working day and night, proper PPE kits should be provided, doctors should be tested for COVID-19 after every 8 to 15 days as they frequently come in contact with Coronavirus patients and beds should be reserved in hospitals for doctors as many doctors have suffered due to unavailability of oxygen.”

Tamil Nadu- 62 

Andhra Pradesh- 42

Karnataka- 41

Gujarat- 36

West Bengal- 27

174 doctors from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Odisha and Punjab.
