477 children rescued/reunited with parents by RPF Central Railway
Mumbai, 19 Aug 2021: Railway Protection Force (RPF) has rescued runaway 477 children from railway platforms of stations over Central Railway in the past 7 months and reunited with their parents. This includes 310 boys and 167 girls from the railway platforms of stations over Central Railway and reunited with their parents with the help of NGOs like Childline. Most of them came to the railway station without informing their families, due to some fight or some family issues or in search of better life or glamour. They were found loitering on the platforms or near the railway stations by trained Railway Protection Force personnel or sometimes in trains also. Many of the parents express their deep gratitude and thankfulness for this noble service of the Railways.
Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager said that the Railways play its role of social responsibility by connecting with the runaway children, understanding their problems and counselling them to go with their family. He also appreciated the RPF and Frontline staff who play an important role by identifying such cases with their innate sense and taking immediate action as a counsellor.
Division-wise breakup of Children rescued from January to July 2021 over Central Railway is as under:
Mumbai Division 166 children (104 boys and 62 girls).
Bhusawal Division 70 children (39 boys and 31 girls).
Nagpur Division 40 children (22 boys and 18 girls).
Pune Division 171 children (130 boys and 41 girls).
Solapur Division 30 children (15 boys and 15 girls).
In July 2021 alone, 73 children (47 boys and 26 girls) were rescued and reunited with their parents over Central Railway.
On 24.7.2021, a 17 years old, minor girl was rescued while travelling alone in Train No. 03201 between Kalyan and Lokmanya tilak Terminus. On reaching Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Narendra Mishra, TTE handed over her to on duty women RPF Ms. B. Patidar and Ms. Sharda Kamble of Childline Organisation. Bablu Kumar in presence of Child Line staff, disclosed her name Sheetal (Name changed) and said that she is residing at Patna, Bihar and has run away from home without informing anyone to make a career in modelling/actress in Mumbai. The girl was handed over to Bal Sudhar Grih, Dongari by Childline staff Ms. Sharada Kamble and woman RPF constable Poonam Tiwari for further action.
In another incident, a 14-year-old minor girl ran away from her Mehbubnagar District residence after her mother scolded her. She got down from train no. 06524 Nizamuddin-Yeshwantpur Express special at Pune. RPF Constable Shashikant Jadhav and Lady Constable Ms. P Shrivas found her at Hadapsar railway station platform on 14.7.2021. On enquiry, the girl disclosed her name as Gitanjali (Name changed) She only spoke Telugu. Her uncle was contacted on the number provided by her. Thereafter, the girl was handed over to Sathi NGO by RPF Constable Jadhav and Lady Constable Ms. P Shrivas for further action.
