4th National Summit organized by CII and Lilly releases white paper on Best practices in Diabetes Management

Every year, roughly 5.8 million Indians die from heart and lung diseases, stroke, cancer and diabetes. In other words, 1 in 4 Indians risks dying from an NCD before they reach the age of 70. The NCD Summit organized by CII and Eli Lilly India therefore comes at a very apt time and is trying its best to cater to the same by building up a consensus both at a regional and national level where one can learn and share global and national best practices.

 

To ensure continuum of diabetes care and strengthening NCDs management, CII along with Eli Lilly has organized the 4th National NCD Summit and Population Services International (PSI) is the strategic partner. This year the theme is “NCDs Management: Translating BEST practices into NEXT practices” to strengthen the policies and practices around NCDs management.

 

Scenario of NCDs in India:

 

·         NCDs contribute to around 5.87 million deaths that account for 60% of all deaths in India, as per WHO Global Status Report on non-communicable diseases, Switzerland 2014

·         According to WHO, Burden of NCDs and their risk factors in India, 2014, the probability of dying between the ages 30 and 70 years from four major NCDs is 26%, which means that a 30 year old individual has a one-fourth chance of dying from these diseases before the age of 70 years
