50,000 Sq Ft Illegal Construction Demolished, PMC Launches Massive Anti-Encroachment Drive in Pune

Pune, 12th February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched an intensified anti-encroachment drive across the city, targeting illegal constructions and unauthorized structures.

Acting on the directives of Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, joint teams led by Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar are carrying out coordinated operations in multiple zones. The civic body has adopted a firm stance to make the city encroachment-free.

On Thursday (February 12), action was taken in several parts of Pune to remove unauthorized constructions, tin sheds, and encroachments on reserved plots. In the Sinhagad Road regional office limits, a major encroachment was cleared from a plot reserved for a Water Treatment Plant under the Water Supply Department. The land, located at Survey No. 43 in Vadgaon Budruk, had illegal constructions spread over approximately 50,243 square feet, according to the joint action report.

The operation was conducted jointly by the Water Supply Department, Anti-Encroachment Removal Department, Sinhagad Road Regional Office, Property Management Department, and the Building Department. Officials said the primary objective of the drive is to prevent obstacles to future water supply projects and to ensure that reserved lands remain free for public infrastructure use.

In the Bhavani Peth ward office jurisdiction, encroachments were removed with assistance from the Khadak Traffic Police Department. Similar action was undertaken in the Wanawadi–Ramtekdi area against unauthorized structures and tin sheds. In the Nagar Road regional office limits, a joint operation is underway in Adarsh Nagar, Lohgaon, in coordination with the Building Development Department.

Meanwhile, with the end of the administrator’s tenure and the return of elected corporators, attention has turned to the role of public representatives in such enforcement drives. Discussions have begun over how corporators will respond to public pressure during anti-encroachment actions and how firmly they will stand in favour of civic interest.

PMC officials, however, clarified that the action will continue in phases and strictly as per rules. Priority will be given to removing encroachments that obstruct reserved plots, public amenities, roads, and traffic movement.

“Anti-encroachment action in the city has been further tightened. Notices are issued and concerned parties are given an opportunity to remove materials voluntarily. If the encroachment continues, the department proceeds with removal. Action against illegal constructions and encroachments will continue in the coming days,” said Somnath Bankar, Deputy Commissioner, PMC.

The civic body has reiterated that it will maintain its crackdown to safeguard public infrastructure and ensure planned urban development in Pune.
