Pune – The 549th Guru Nanak Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Saheb ji, the first Sikh Guru, founder of Sikhism was celebrated in the city on Friday at Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Ganesh Peth, Pune. This also marked the start of special preparations of Grand celebrations for next year which will complete 550 years all over the world.
Sikhs from the entire Pune city and suburb area joined in the celebrations at the Gurudwara Saheb which started with early morning Prabhat Pheri followed by Samapti of Sehaj Path, continuous daily reading from past week of Sri Guru Granth Saheb by devotees together, Kirtan of hymns in praise of Guru Saheb by prominent Raagi Jatha from Sri Darbar Saheb, Amritsar and Gurbani Katha on this special occasion.
Celebrations started early morning and continued till late night. People from all walks of life joined in the celebrations and took blessings of Guru Saheb who has taught us all the message of ‘Ek Pita Ekas Ke Hum Barik’ meaning God is One and we all are His children.
Corporator Sulochana Tejendra Kondhare took special initiative and supported Gurudwara Saheb in getting the entire parking lot, exclusively allotted to Gurudwara Saheb  by Pune municipal corporation (PMC), completely cleaned and also beautification and greenery done at the entrance of the Gurudwara by laying of fresh pavement blocks and plants on this occasion for the Sikh community.
Also to embark the preparation of celebrations 550th birth anniversary next year, trustee of Gurudwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha Sardar Pritpal Singh Kanduja and management committee members  along with the support of Corporator  Smt. Kondhare has taken a social initiative for better environment and society to plant and nurture 550 sustainable trees, shrubs and plants in and around the Gurudwara Sahib  together with the PMC.
Langar was continuously served to all the devotees visiting the Gurudwara Saheb on this special occasion. Special free dental check up and awareness camp was also organised in co-ordination with Gurudwara Management by City Sikh Community Doctors as Sewa in the day for all the visiting devotees on this special day at Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Ganesh Peth, Pune.
