Pune, 9th January 2026: Pune recorded its coldest morning of the season on Thursday, January 9, as the minimum temperature plunged to 6.9 degrees Celsius at NDA and Haveli, bringing a sharp winter chill across the city and surrounding areas.

After nearly a week of above-normal night temperatures, the sudden dip marked a notable shift in weather conditions. The drop in mercury resulted in chilly early mornings, with residents experiencing cold winds and heavy dew, particularly in open and low-lying areas.

According to readings from various weather monitoring stations across Pune district, Shivajinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 8.4°C, while Pashan registered 8.3°C. Malin recorded 7.8°C, indicating widespread cooling across both urban and rural pockets.

Among other regions, Baramati recorded 9.2°C,
Daund 9.5°C, Kurkavande 9.6°C, Talegaon 9.8°C, and Ambegaon 10.0°C. Nimgiri recorded 10.7°C, while Lavale saw a minimum temperature of 11.5°C.

In the city’s eastern and central parts, Hadapsar recorded 11.6°C, Dapodi 11.9°C, Dudulgaon 12.2°C, Bhor 12.4°C, Girivan 12.7°C, Chinchwad 14.2°C, Wadgaonsheri 14.8°C, while Magarpatta remained comparatively warmer at 15.3°C.

Meteorologists attributed the sharp fall in minimum temperatures to clear skies and dry northerly winds, which lead to rapid heat loss during nighttime hours. Such conditions are typical during peak winter but had remained subdued in recent days.

The India Meteorological Department has indicated that cold mornings are likely to persist over the next couple of days. Citizens, particularly children and senior citizens, have been advised to take precautions against the sudden cold spell.
