64 Kg Ganja Worth Over Rs 13 Lakh Seized In Pune; Three Arrested In Separate Raids

Pune, 2nd May 2025: Pune police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has seized 64 kilograms of ganja worth ₹13.28 lakh in two separate operations, arresting three individuals involved in transporting the contraband from Odisha and Dhule for sale in Pune city.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Pappu Chakradhar Devri (32), resident of Kalan, Rasulpur in Jajapur district of Odisha; Chandan Subhash Kunwar (19), from Tarol, Senapati Colony in Cuttack, Odisha; and Rakesh Rupsing Pawara (25), from Shirpur in Dhule district, Maharashtra.

The first operation took place near Pune Railway Station, where ANC personnel were patrolling the area. Acting on a tip-off, police set up a trap and detained Devri and Kunwar, who had allegedly brought ganja from Odisha for distribution in Pune. Upon inspection of the bags they carried, officials recovered 30 kg of ganja valued at ₹6.24 lakh.

In the second raid, carried out near Wakdewadi ST stand on the old Mumbai–Pune Highway, police apprehended Pawara, who was reportedly transporting ganja from Dhule. A total of 34 kg of ganja, estimated at ₹7.04 lakh, was seized from his possession.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Bund Garden Police Station against Devri and Kunwar, and at Khadak Police Station against Pawara, under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The successful operations were carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Pingale, and Assistant Commissioner Rajendra Mulik. The ANC team comprised Police Inspectors Sudarshan Gaikwad, Assistant Inspectors Nitinkumar Naik, Prashant Bomadandi, Sandeep Jadhav, Ravindra Rokade, Mayur Suryawanshi, Chetan Gaikwad, Syed Sahil Shaikh, Uday Rakshe, Azim Shaikh, Yuvraj Kamble, Azad Patil, Dinesh Bastewad, Disha Khevalkar, and Neelam Patil.
