7-km Traffic Queue in Hinjawadi: Potholes and Neglect Blamed for Tech Park Mess

Hinjawadi, 18th June 2025: A massive traffic jam gripped the Hinjawadi IT Park on Tuesday, leaving thousands of office-goers stuck for hours during peak commuting times. The primary cause: rain-damaged roads riddled with potholes, muddy patches, and poor drainage — all of which triggered chaos across one of Pune’s busiest tech corridors.
From 11 am to 2 pm, and again between 4 pm to 8 pm, vehicles were seen crawling along key routes with traffic queues stretching over 7 kilometers. The worst-hit stretches included Man Gaon to Phase 3, Phase 3 to Phase 2, Wipro Circle to Phase 1, Amsterdam Hotel Chowk to Mezza 9, Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to Wakad, and Laxmi Chowk to Bhumkar Chowk via Kala Khadak.
Despite directives issued by PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase last week to prioritize traffic relief measures in Hinjewadi, commuters alleged that ground-level officials remained indifferent to the situation.
“The roads are in a horrible condition. Due to waterlogging and potholes, driving has become dangerous and exhausting,” said Anand Chougule, an IT professional working in Phase 2. “Senior officials from PMRDA and MIDC should drive on these roads once — they will understand our daily ordeal.”
Tuesday’s dry weather exposed the deteriorating condition of roads that had been masked by rainwater in recent days. Commuters were forced to maneuver around gaping potholes, further worsening congestion.
Local residents and tech employees alike have raised strong demands, urging authorities to:
Immediately repair and asphalt damaged roads,
Clean stormwater drains and remove encroachments,
Ban heavy vehicles at metro construction sites,
Complete pending work on alternative routes, and
Expand the width of key roadways.
“This so-called world-class IT park is becoming a nightmare due to administrative neglect,” said Vasant Sakhra, a resident of Hinjawadi village. “Even the Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar should step in and issue strict directions to resolve this mess.”

Calls are now growing louder for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene directly, as repeated complaints have failed to yield results on the ground. With the monsoon intensifying and infrastructure still crumbling, residents fear the situation will only worsen without urgent and visible action.
