Viral Video: SpiceJet Employee Made to Taste Biryani by Fuming Passengers at Pune Airport
Pune, 18th June 2025: A video showing angry SpiceJet passengers confronting a ground staff member over allegedly poor-quality food has gone viral, sparking debate over airline services and passenger behaviour. The incident reportedly took place at Pune Airport during a long delay of SpiceJet flight SG-8124 to Delhi.
In the viral footage, frustrated passengers are seen surrounding a SpiceJet employee and insisting that he taste the biryani that had been served to them. One visibly agitated passenger can be heard saying, “Eat this and tell us — is this food for humans or animals? Should this even be called biryani?”
Another person threatened the staffer, saying, “If you were outside the airport, I would have stuffed this food in your mouth.”
Despite the tension, the employee took three spoonfuls of the biryani and maintained that the food was not bad. SpiceJet has since responded, stating that the video is not recent and that the food provided was fresh and sourced from an authorised vendor.
SpiceJet’s official statement read: “We strongly refute the claims made in the video. The incident is over two weeks old. The food was procured from an authorised vendor who supplies meals to multiple airlines and airport outlets, not just SpiceJet.”
The airline defended its staff, calling the treatment of the employee in the video “unfortunate and unacceptable.”
“Our staff member was verbally abused and threatened but continued to respond calmly and respectfully. Such aggression against our personnel cannot be condoned,” the statement added.
The incident occurred after flight SG-8124 was delayed by nearly seven hours, leaving passengers visibly frustrated. While the video has triggered outrage online, it has also raised concerns about the rising tempers during flight disruptions and the need for better handling of passenger grievances.
Airport officials have not yet commented on the food vendor’s role in the controversy.
