71 Persons Arrested for Unjustified Alarm Chain Pulling in Pune Railway Division

Pune, 9th March 2025: Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Verma and led by Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Priyanka Sharma, Pune Division is taking stringent action against unnecessary Alarm Chain Pulling (ACP), which disrupts train operations and causes inconvenience to passengers.
The ACP handle is provided for emergency use to stop the train in case of genuine need. However, misuse of this facility is a punishable offense under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989. Any unauthorized interference with train communication, including unjustified ACP, can lead to imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to ₹1,000, or both.
Action Taken in February 2025
In February 2025, a total of 130 cases of ACP were reported across Pune Division, out of which 71 individuals were arrested for pulling the alarm chain without a valid reason. A total fine of ₹31,600 was recovered from offenders.
Impact of Unnecessary ACP
– Delays in train operations – Until the ACP is restored, the affected train remains halted, leading to delays in other trains as well.
– Passenger inconvenience – Many passengers face unnecessary delays in reaching their destinations due to unjustified ACP incidents.
– Revenue and punctuality loss for Railways – Frequent ACP misuse affects operational efficiency, leading to financial losses and disruption in schedules.
Legal Consequences for ACP Misuse
Passengers who pull the alarm chain without a justified reason will be detained and their journey will be interrupted to complete legal formalities required for producing the case in a court of law.
Pune Division Central Railway administration appeals to all passengers to use the ACP facility responsibly and only in genuine emergencies. Misuse will lead to strict legal action.
