Pune, 19th December 2024: The Tax Collection Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its campaign against property tax defaulters, employing unconventional methods like playing a band at the doors of defaulters and sealing their properties. In the last 18 days, the department has sealed 75 properties and recovered Rs 40.68 crore from 317 property owners. This update was shared by Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner of the PMC’s Tax Collection Department.

For the financial year 2024-25, PMC issued property tax bills to approximately 14.8 lakh property owners. Of these, 8.84 lakh have paid a total of Rs 1,841 crore so far. However, nearly six lakh property owners are yet to clear their dues. With a target of Rs 2,727 crore set in this year’s budget, the corporation still needs to collect Rs 850 crore in the remaining three months of the financial year.

To meet this target, the Tax Collection Department has adopted an aggressive approach. Actions include public displays like playing bands outside properties of defaulters and sealing their premises. This strategy has proven effective, with the department reportedly collecting Rs 2-2.5 crore daily.
