99TH FOUNDATION DAY OF QMTI

Queen Mary’s Technical Institute (QMTI) for Disabled Soldiers, located on Park Road, Range Hills, Khadki celebrated its 99th Foundation Day on 16 May 2016. Since its raising on 16 May 1917, during the first World War, QMTI has been involved in developing vocational skills of those soldiers whose physical capabilities got challenged while performing their duties in hostile environments. Training at QMTI is intended to facilitate respectable rehabilitation of these brave deserving soldiers.

During one hour long function held in the Kargil Memorial Hall of QMTI soldiers under training at QMTI entertained guests through a small cultural programme comprising of songs and skits. Chief Guest, Lt General Bipin Rawat, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C Southern Command appreciated the dedication and commitment of these soldiers. He congratulated them for their grit and determination to acquire new vocational skills for respectable rehabilitation.

Chief Guest advised and encouraged soldiers to be entrepreneurs in respective field. They must dream big and aim to facilitate employment to others. He said that all round development of soldiers during service must be synchronized with the prevailing public / private sector opportunities aiming rural area industrial developments.

He also appreciated focused approach of QMTI in transforming soldiers’ experiences into vocational and entrepreneurship skills. He said that in addition to available Army networks, QMTI must join hands with corporate and industrial establishments for facilitating opportunities to these soldiers under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) norms. QMTI is engaged in a truly noble task which deserves CSR support.

Maj Gen Prithi Singh Chairman QMTI thanked all academic, corporate and industrial establishments for assisting QMTI in training. He appreciated soldiers undergoing on the job and management training. The donors were admired for extending continued financial support. He expressed gratitude towards Army welfare authorities for extending financial assistance and Retired Capt Rustom Bharucha who donated Rs 1 lakh to QMTI again.
