CII conducts Workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act in Pune

CII Indian Women Network & Stop Exploitation, Molestation, Abuse & Assault (SEMAA) jointly conducted a workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act for women at workplace, yet another unique workshop under which the Confederation of Indian Industry is extending its agenda beyond business. The hugely successful workshop addressed by Dr G Manjunath, Joint Secretary  & Joint Labour Commissioner,  KARBWWB, Government of Karnataka, Dr Divya Jaitly, Convenor – IWN Pune Chapter, Partner-The Advance Learning Institute & Dr Padmini Sundaram, Co-Convener- SEMAA Pune & Founder – Dr Padmini Associates.

Dr Padmini Sundaram welcomed all the participants and welcomed the trainer. Dr Divya Jaitly highlighted the current need of  India to empower women & gave a brief about Indian Women Network (IWN). Dr G Manjunath began the workshop with a brief background of the Act & rules. These Acts provide protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace & for prevention & redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. Referring to the gazette of India, the terms such as local body, local complaints committee etc were explained. Also, there was a brief discussion on the duties of the employer, manner of inquiry into complaints, other relief to complainant during prudency of Inquiry etc.

There was an clear understanding of who is an aggrieved women, who is a domestic worker, what is the internal committee, who is a respondent and many more such important terms. The main objective of the workshop was that No woman shall be subjected to sexual harassment at any workplace. The session was attended by 58 participants across the industry.
