Pune: 19-Year-Old Robbed At Hanuman Tekdi, Sustains Hand Injuries

Pune, 4th October 2022: A 19-year-old student from Akola city in Vidarbha, Varun Gupta, sustained hand injuries after two men with knives attacked and stole his gold ring at Hanuman Tekdi on Saturday evening.

 

Gupta is a second-year student of Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree at Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) in Pune. Gupta, with two friends, went to Hanuman Tekdi after his lectures on Saturday.

 

According to police, the accused approached the group and tried to engage them in a conversation. Sandeep Jadhav, Police Sub-Inspector, Deccan Police Station, said, “One of the accused threatened the group with a sharp knife and proceeded to attack Varun on the right hand.” The stolen ring cost Rs 20,000.

Devansh Gupta (Varun Gupta’s friend), 19, filed a police complaint at the Deccan Police Station under Indian Penal Code sections 394 (armed robbery) and 34 (IPC). Similar thefts have been reported in Hanuman tekdi, Vetal tekdi, Taljai, Bhamburda, and the area around Pashan hill. Three people robbed a young man and his girlfriend while they were sitting on a hill in March of this year.

 

The accused approached the couple and assaulted them before forcing them to pay Rs 76,000 via a digital payment app. The police department has increased patrols in and around the area. Residents have complained about anti-social elements engaging in binge drinking and have demanded that CCTV cameras be installed for security reasons.
