Camp, 7th November 2022: There is a piece of good news for commuters passing through the limits of the Pune cantonment board (PCB). Soon people would not have to pay the vehicle entry tax (VET).

According to officials from the Directorate General of Defence Estates (DGDE), earlier this year the cantonment boards across the country including Khadki and Dehuroad cantonments had stopped collecting vehicle entry fees. However, many cantonment boards including PCB continued to collect the VET owing to some technicalities. PCB earns Rs 12 crore from VET every year.

“Ten cantonments were charging VET. The central government has issued directions to these 10 cantonments asking them to abolish the VET. A gazette notification will be issued by the centre soon”, a senior DGDE officer told PunekarNews.in.
